The Wombles of Ware Abouts is a Facebook group set up by Andy Murphy and Claudia Kohler to encourage people living in Ware to adopt and litter pick an area local to them.  Their group has now covered almost the whole of Ware and is making a real difference.

Hoddesdon and Broxbourne now have our very own sister group - the Wombles of Hoddesdon & Broxbourne Abouts, which is organised by Claire Phelan.

Join the Wombles of Hoddesdon & Broxbourne Abouts Facebook Group

If you have Facebook, please join the group - register what street you want to adopt, get in touch with your immediate litter picking neighbours, post about your litter picking and get inspired.  Let's make this as successful as it is in Ware - and spread the word!

You can, of course, be a Womble without joining the Facebook group - just get out there with your litter picker.

Adopt a street and get your litter picking kit (free) from the Council

Broxbourne Council supports community litter picking and runs its own Adopt A Street schemeApply to the Council, nominate the road or area you want to adopt (the only limitation is that it has to be a Council-owned road or piece of land), and the Council will send you a litter picker, green plastic bags (that can be left beside your household bins and will be picked up) and gloves.  If there are two adults in your family who are going to be litter picking, ask them for two sets (the Council cannot provide litter picking equipment for under 18s).

All you need to do is fill in the application form (download it here) and send it by email to  streetcleansing@broxbourne.gov.uk or via post to the Street Scene Manager, Environmental Services, Broxbourne Borough Council, Unit 4 Broxbourne Business Centre, Fairways, New River Trading Estate, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN8 0NP.

Litter picking events

We are going to organise some socially distanced litter picking events in the summer - coming soon!  We will email our members to let you know in advance.
