Consultation ends 19 February 2020 - last chance to have your say

The Council is currently consulting on its amendments to the Local Plan, with all comments to be in by 5pm on 19 February 2020.  The Council has issued a guidance note explaining where you can view the documents in hard copy and how you can provide your comments.  All of the documents are available on their website in electronic form.  Specific elements relating to Hoddesdon and Broxbourne include....

Lowewood Museum - Event

Man on the Moon Exhibition - Support Your Museum day on Saturday 22 February

Lowewood Museum has a new exhibition celebrating the 1969 moon landing which is officially opening on 15 February (so open for the half term holidays).  The Friends of Lowewood and The Hoddesdon Society are encouraging people to come to the museum on Saturday 22 February for a second Support your Museum day.   The exhibition is open until 30 May 2020...

Funds to be spent on CCTV system, lighting to the clocktower and brown tourist attraction signs

At the Section 106 Panel on 18 February funds were committed to the following projects for Hoddesdon Town Centre:

  • A 12 camera CCTV system to be set up in the town.

Joint statement from Council and Friends of Lowewood Museum released today confirming trust to be set up

The Council has today issued a press release which confirms that it has revisited its decision to close Lowewood Museum and intends to set up a trust to run the museum.  Whereas this is good news and a positive first step, which undoubtedly comes about as a direct result of the huge public response to the campaign, it leaves a number of essential questions answered, even at this early stage....

Application for 104 residential units on brownfield site known as the Turnford Surfacing Area submitted to planning

The awaited application for the 104 residential unit development overlooking the River Lea has been submitted to Broxbourne Council for approval.  The plans are for two blocks of flats containing 29 one-bed and 62 two-bed units and 13 three-bed town houses, plus a community/commercial space at the base of one of the flats which may take the form of a cafe.  Its proximity to the River Lea raises important...

Plans have been submitted to add a door to the front in the central window feature 

An application has been made to make alterations to the frontage of the former Post Office, to add a door offering both access and the visibility to the main area.  The application explains that this is because of difficulties in being able to rent this space out for retail because, with the current configuration, potential customers have no way of looking into the shop space as they walk past.   Planning permission has.....

The Spotlight will not reopen until autumn 2021 and retaining staff "not sustainable"

The Council issued a statement on 26 June 2020 which confirmed that there will be a delay to the reopening until such point as it becomes financially viable to open once more.  The statement confirms that the Spotlight represents an annual cost to the tax payer of £150,000 in a normal year, even after ticket and food/drink sale receipts, and the Council projects a cost of £350,000 in the current circumstances where.....
