Charitable Trust established with £30,000 annual funding from the Council

Following the successful local campaign to stop the closure of this unique local resource, a charitable trust has now been set up to run the museum.  The new trustees are featured on the Museum's website

The Council has agreed to enter into a five year Service Level Agreement ("SLA") under which it will provide funding of £30,000 per annum and to provide the Lowewood Museum lease at a peppercorn rent, in return for the Trust delivering museum services.   A lease has been granted for 25 years. The Trust will be responsible for all day to day costs (including business rates, etc), with the Council responsible for external maintenance, buildings insurance and insurance of the Museum's collection (which will remain the property of the Council).

The Trust are proactively seeking further external funding and planning future exhibitions.

The SLA says that the planned opening hours for the Museum will be Wednesday-Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-5pm.  The programme that the Trust is to deliver is ambitious and will include continuing to work with schools, maintaining a programme of family activities (including toddlers and school holiday craft sessions), offering talks and "to continue to show a year on year growth in footfall and total usage".

Lowewood Museum Trust is looking for volunteers for a range of roles and activities  - click here to go to the Museum's website or email friendsoflowewoodmuseum@gmail.com for more information.
